What is the OWS CyCon Fantasy Blog Tour?
As part of the OWS CyCon 2019, we asked our fantasy authors to write about what makes their world, or the world of another author unique. Each of them has come up with very different answers that reflects their writing processes, their research methods, and their views on world-building.
We hope you find these insights interesting, and that they give you some new things to think about when you pick up a new book, or even start writing your own.

A world created by an author is like a masterpiece. We work to create kingdoms, cities, towns, and so much more. The genre the author is writing in can determine the demographic of the world itself. There are so many options to pick from to create an urban fantasy book to a dystopian novel.
In my current WIP, I have five kingdoms. They are: Tarza, Vladïmir, Mountains of Tõrrin, Zõrron, and the Forest of Ferrês. There are additional kingdoms within the world itself, but these are the main ones I touch on throughout my series. Each kingdom has its own host of creatures, diplomacy, and structure compared to the others. They are different in so many ways that it is like creating a civilization from scratch.
Tarza is the kingdom for humans and magic users. They have their own rules on how they govern their daily lives. Like the other kingdoms, they have a king and queen. The king of Tarza is Tyler Flares, and the queen is Sarah. They govern the kingdom together along with using the strength of their four children to continue into the future.
Vladïmir is the land of the elves. They hide it behind the forest walls in the south. They consider the trees part of the kingdom. Once you enter through the outer walls of the forest land, you come to find yourself inside the inner forest kingdom. This is where the wilder elves live. They keep the heart of the kingdom safe by protecting the lands without. Once inside, you find the heart of the kingdom is the castle where King Ivan lives. He has three children: Prince Ïstan, Prince Elden, and Princess Serena.
Mountains of Tõrrin is where the dwarves live. They live within the mountains the border along the continent of Tarzinëa. Inside the mountains dwarves have built cities and towns. But, the main source of wealth are from the mines. These mines are where the dwarves create masterful works of art from jewelry to weapons. Right now King Röak sits the throne and rules over the mountains.
Zõrron is like an island with mountains filling it. This is where the dragon ryders came from and where they took refuge during the cleansing. Zõrron was lost to history and remains hidden from the world till the rightful heir claims the throne.
The Forest of Ferrês is the land of magic and beasts. It is a forest that never lives in one place and moves where it feels needed. Creatures from kyres, twin-tailed foxes, fairies, and so much more live within. Man is only allowed to enter if the forest deems them worthy.
Now that you got some background on each kingdom you can see that they are different. This creates a uniqueness to each land and people. It keeps everything exciting and building towards a future that could make or break their kingdom.
Overall, I believe my world is unique just like we consider every other authors world to be unique. We create pieces of art with our words and keep things growing. You can’t miss one detail or it will all fall apart. That is the magic in each world and why they are all unique.
